New Study: Niacinamide May Reverse Aging Markers and Extend Healthy Lifespan

2025-07-09

What is Niacinamide?
Niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, is an essential nutrient with multiple skin and health benefits. Unlike its cousin niacin, niacinamide is a non-flushable form of vitamin B3 that can be ingested or used topically. It is a key precursor of coenzyme I (NAD+/NADH) and coenzyme II (NADP+/NADPH) in the body and is involved in key physiological processes such as energy metabolism, DNA repair and cell signalling. Not only is it a water-soluble vitamin that is easily absorbed, it is more stable than niacin and has no ‘Flushing Effect’, making it suitable for people who are intolerant to niacin.
Anti Aging Research
Niacinamide has a unique role in health medicine, in addition to the cosmetic field. Groundbreaking research published in Cell Metabolism shows that Nicotinamide, a common vitamin B3 derivative, may significantly slow the aging process and even reverse some of the markers of aging by repairing cellular damage and improving metabolic function. This finding provides a new scientific rationale in the field of anti-aging and may advance the use of Nicotinamide (Niacinamide) in healthy longevity interventions.

Dr. Sarah Harper, Head of Research at the Centre for the Biology of Ageing, University of Oxford, mentioned: "The potential of niacinamide has long been underestimated. Not only can it alleviate aging-related metabolic decline, it may also prevent age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease." However, some academics have called for a cautious interpretation, arguing that more human clinical trials are needed to validate it, and that current research is limited to animal models.

Market and Industry Implications
Niacinamide (Niacinamide) is already widely used in skincare products such as skin whitening and barrier repair, but with its multiple benefits such as metabolic support, anti-fatigue, and skin health, it is rapidly expanding its application in the functional beverage and oral supplement markets, and upgrading of the anti-ageing content of the products will be carried out with the aid of scientific research. In addition, the demand for niacinamide (Niacinamide) raw materials is also steadily increasing, the global niacinamide (Niacinamide) market size has exceeded $800 million in 2023, and is expected to reach $1.2 billion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 7.5%. Meanwhile the global niacinamide (Niacinamide) market size is expected to reach USD 1.2 billion by 2025, major suppliers are expanding their production capacity, and emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, Latin America, and other functional food and skincare markets have great potential.

The current safe dose of Niacinamide (Niacinamide) is 50-500mg per day (overdose may trigger liver enzyme abnormalities). Experts recommend prioritising natural intake through dietary sources such as fish, nuts and whole grains. If supplements are needed, third-party certified products are preferred.
All in all, future applications in precision nutrition and disease prevention are worth looking forward to. Researchers are still planning to initiate phase II human clinical trials to further validate the actual effects of niacinamide in anti-aging. If the results are positive, this cheap and easily accessible molecule could become the next star ingredient in the ‘longevity economy’.
